Description
Located near Dutch border, connected with Rhein river by Spoykanal; ruled by counts of Cleve from 11th cen., passed to counts of La Marck in 1368, made duchy in 1417; passed to Brandenburg in 1614, to Prussia in 1815; was severely damaged in WW II.
