DescriptionWide, white pastel border around image. Dirt, rocky path going through adobe village.eMuseum Notes
Baumann cut a wood block from this gouache painting of several adobe rooms. It won’t take long to notice that the woodcut print is reversed. Baumann cut the block accurately to the painted model. The reason for this is that the printing process always reverses the image. This optical phenomena is more apparent with highly-asymmetric landscapes as in Old Santa Fe, and not so apparent when small figures in the landscape are reversed.
