Artist Raymond Jonson adopted the airbrush in 1938, impressed by the results achieved by László Moholy-Nagy and his students at the Chicago Bauhaus. For Jonson, the airbrush allowed him to reduce the presence of his hand and further associations between the formal elements of line, color, and form and spiritual transcendence. Jonson saw his work as an aspiration towards a higher plane of thought and a communion with the energies of the cosmos.
