Erika Blumenfeld conceives of her art as a sustained exploration over time of light and environmental phenomena. She has taken photography and distilled it to its absolute essence, "light writing," by recording light in varying degrees to create sublime and minimal works. She beautifully balances art and technology and Minimalism and politics, and she pushes the boundaries of the photographic medium-moving now, very successfully, into video. Some of her earliest Light Recordings, such as this one, were done with Polaroid Type 54 film.
