eMuseum Notes
This portrait of Ernest Blumenschein's only child, Helen Green Blumenschein, depicts her in the uniform of a World War I doughboy. Helen, with her page boy hair style, seems displeased to pose for her father, who must have selected the contrived pose in the corner of the room. Ernest contributed to the war effort at the time by painting range finder scenes for American gunners. He helped to lead a national campaign on the part of the Salmagundi Club in New York City to create such paintings.
