eMuseum Notes

For Ernest Blumenschein, 1898 was a pivotal year in which he visited prominent author William Allen White, editor of the Emporia Gazette, and then began a trip to Mexico with colleague Bert Geer Phillips, only to wind up in Taos, New Mexico when a broken wagon wheel forced them to seek repairs.

Given Blumenschein's travels, the location of this winter scene is difficult to ascertain. It is possible that Blumenschein painted this from his home in New York City, unless the date he inscribed is erroneous.
