DescriptionSeated girl with her head resting against her right hand, wearing a fluffy turquoise-colored bathrobe and with her hair folded atop her head in a blue towel. She leans against a red bedspread, holding a television remote control in her left hand, with a pile of stuffed animals in the background behind her.
eMuseum Notes
This piece is from Young’s series on teenagers, begun in the late 1990s and inspired by her daughter. Here, a twelve-year-old girl’s expression of bored defiance is at odds with her young and vulnerable appearance. Her forbidding glance is defused by the fluffy robe and towel, as well as the pile of stuffed animals behind her, which remind us she is still a child.
