DescriptionThe piece is made of a grid of two alternating images: a cropped version of Dorothea Lange’s famous photograph Migrant Mother and a cropped version of a magazine advertisement featuring a model in a billowy white blouse. In this version, the model’s white blouse is superimposed over the Migrant Mother image at the upper left of the composition and the two images continue to be mixed in the other frames.eMuseum Notes
One of three studies the artist made that joins together Dorothea Lange’s famous picture Migrant Mother with a picture of a model from an Estee Lauder advertisement, the artist here combines elements of the two women. The migrant worker gets to try on a fancy blouse, achieve perfect skin, and see the world through the eyes of a model in this recontextualization of an iconic photograph.
