eMuseum Notes
The youth and beauty of this man is interrupted by the dramatic river of blood coursing from his face and head. The artist was nearby and with only two exposures left, captured this unexpected scene. The slain man, a participant in a labor strike, almost looks as though he were laid out for a funeral. Rather than offering a political message, the artist seems to emphasize death as an ordinary part of life.
