eMuseum Notes
Sonia Delaunay was a painter and designer of clothing, textiles, and stage sets. An active member of the Parisian avant-garde, Delaunay’s artwork reflects the concerns of the Post-Impressionist, Fauvist, Cubist, and Futurist artists active at the beginning of the twentieth century. Sometimes referred to as Orphism or Simultanism, this style of work is concerned with the impact colors and shapes have upon one another within a single composition. In this etching, juxtaposition and line are used to imply movement and to create greater vibrancy to the composition overall.
