eMuseum Notes
Born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Christenberry often visited family in rural Hale County, a place that has provided the primary inspiration for his work in painting, sculpture, and photography. Particularly drawn to the region’s folk architecture, Christenberry often photographed the same site over the course of several decades. His first image of this building was made in black-and-white in the 1960s and continued to photograph it in color from 1971-1991.
