eMuseum Notes
Trained as a painter and inspired by historic talents such as Giorgio Morandi, Cezanne, and Fra Angelico, Jan Groover devoted herself to making still lifes for several decades, but using photography rather than paint. Initially, she arranged everyday utensils such as forks and spatulas in her kitchen sink to create simple, elegant compositions that focus on form rather than subject. In this piece from the late 1980s, she invites our eyes to linger on the gentle curves of a suite of bottles and an egg cup.
