eMuseum Notes
David Levinthal uses toy soldiers and other figurines to construct tableaus that often address serious subject matter and major cultural mythologies. In this photograph of a lone cowboy and horse, from his series “Wild West,” he examines the topic of the mythic western hero. His use of plastic toys coupled with  techniques of lighting and focus results in images that play with our perceptions and push against the believability of the photograph.
