In the early 1970s, artist Darryl Curran and some of his compatriots rejected the idea of photography as a separate, pristine medium and incorporated it into a multi-disciplinary approach to art making. Using photography, printmaking, and rubber stamps, Curran appears to question mid-century dietary choices by superimposing a giant hamburger on the face of a stylish woman in a contemplative pose, crowned by a frieze of flagpoles bearing both an American flag and that of the McDonald’s fast-food restaurant, in yellow and silver ink.
