DescriptionShonnard Collection papers comprising sketches, notes, and small works:Front: Two framed works, one by her father, Frederic Shonnard, and the other by a cousin, known by the nickname Hop Toadkins. Correspondence between Shonnard and Hop can be found in the Chavez Library, and the letters show that Hop often sent his art to Shonnard (whom he nicknamed Babekins) for advice or as gifts. There is also an oval frame that originally contained a graphite landscape now kept in folder 3.
Folder 1: Sketchbooks and Notebooks - three bound sketchbooks/ notebooks containing notes and sketches by Shonnard.
Folder 2: Breton Watercolors and Sketches - seven images of Breton peasant women; two watercolors and five pencil sketches.
Folder 3: Unknown/other artists - include an oval-shaped graphite landscape, a New York newspaper from July 16, 1883, a print sent by Shonnard's cousin "Hop", and others.
Folder 4: Edward Gordon Ludlam Drawings - two drawings of sailboats, one signed E.G.S., presumed to be Shonnard's husband, Edward Gordon Ludlam.
Folder 5: Notes and Recipes - small papers containing notes on operating a kiln, recipes for poured stone mixtures, etc.
Folder 6: Finished/ Signed Works - finished works by Shonnard, all except the oil landscape on board are signed. Includes charcoal, watercolor, ink, and oil works.
Folder 7: Sketch of Brittany, France: Pencil drawing of a village, presumed to be in Brittany, France, comparing this work to others by Shonnard.
Folder 8: Small/ unfinished sketches: Sketch work in assorted sizes and levels of detail, many resemble pieces Shonnard eventually finished.
