Detritus Portfolio coroplast backer

Thomas Barrow's portfolio "Detritus" reflects his own casual collection of small odds and ends, liberally displayed throughout his studio. The subject matter fits with his characteristic interest in the mundane and ambiguous, seen in his artistic work from series including "Pink Stuff," "Cancellations," and "Television Montages." Barrow was also interested in materiality versus representation: the images in this portfolio were first objects, then photographs, then portfolio prints, a variety of iterations and interpretations of what are essentially unidentifiable things. In other work, the artist also used detritus to create mixed-media sculptures, a different creative use of the American material culture that so engaged him.
