eMuseum Notes

Artist Angela Ellsworth is noted for her sculpture works that often address gender roles, spirituality, and mysticism. Early works in this vein adopted the sister wives, clothing, and rites of passage that were part of her upbringing in the Church of Latter-Day saints as subject matter and symbols in her work. Through her work Ellsworth, the great granddaughter of one of that churches’ original seven prophets, strives to reveal the female presence and more mystical aspects of the early Mormon faith.  Created with the pearl topped pins most often used to attach corsages and boutonnieres, her Seer Bonnet works include nods to other visionary women, whose names are attributed to the work in parenthesis.
