In 2012, during a residency at Bullseye Glass Resource Center in Santa Fe, Judy Tuwaletstiwa began to experiment with kiln-formed glass, producing a series of work that included Catching Light, Stopping Time #1. By firing a mixture of silica sand, pigment, soda ash, and limestone, the artist creates delicate sheets of glass that, at first glance, appear like sheets of fabric or even paper. Through her experimentations with glass, and a variety of other media, Tuwaletstiwa explores personal memories and experiences, reflecting joys and pains of the human condition.
