eMuseum Notes
Polly Dix Schaafsma is best known as an archaeologist and has published widely on rock art in the American Southwest. This watercolor of Ghost Ranch near Abiquiu, New Mexico depicts the prismatic geological formations using a spare, descriptive line and light washes of color. The general absence of color in the watercolor suggests that location may be Plaza Blanca or what Georgia O'Keeffe called the White Place.
