Around 1950, Cady Wells became interested in grids, using the forms in a variety of ways. In this unfinished landscape, the grid suggests the platting of land seen from an aerial view. The black curvilinear form sweeping through the composition emulates the meander of a river and the delicate nuances of color resemble topography.
