While some artists in Taos were uneasy with change, Victor Higgins never shied away from automobiles, gas pumps, and modern advertising when it made for an interesting image. Higgins juxtaposed signs of American consumer culture with the abode buildings of Taos and the mountains beyond as if to demonstrate just how unusual Taos was in its mixture of tradition and modernity.
