In the summer of 1937, Victor Higgins married heiress and patron Marion Koogler McNay, and he joined her at her estate, Sunset Hills in San Antonio. He produced a series of watercolor of the grounds during his stay, which counted among the greatest number of work he produced during his stay in San Antonio. Higgins's depictions of the manicured gardens of McNay's home focus on the trappings of European gardens.
