DescriptionBrooklyn bridgeeMuseum Notes
John Marin's images of the Brooklyn Bridge celebrated the modernity of its architecture and engineering, and this etching, Brooklyn Bridge No. 6, captures Marin's interest in the dynamism of the city. The repetitive and somewhat frenetic use of line conveys what Marin thought of as the dynamism of the urban environment. In this depiction, Marin added a subtle slant to the bridge's masonry arches to suggest sway under the influence of the wind.
