eMuseum Notes
Photographer Jin Lee is known for her work in landscape photography, exploring the cycles of change in natural lake and prairie scenes. In a sharp departure from that work, her high-contrast series Heads takes on portraiture in a manner reminiscent of the traditional, cut-paper silhouettes popular in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. The old-fashioned technique is in tension with contemporary gender, social, and racial issues about how we depict and perceive others.
