DescriptionQuarter length portrait of Claudia O'Keeffe as a child. Claudia O'Keeffe was one of the artist's four sisters.eMuseum Notes
Claudia Ruth O'Keeffe was born in 1899, and she seems to have modeled happily for her older sister Georgia, who started classes at the Art Institute of Chicago in fall 1905. Although the elder O'Keeffe had just begun her training, the portrait demonstrates a familiarity with some of the more progressive portraiture being produced in the United States and bears similarities to the works of Robert Henri and William Merritt Chase, the latter of whom she studied with at the Art Students League in 1907.
