Helen L. DoroshowAmerican, 1928 - 2008

Helen L. Doroshow was born in 1928 and raised in Philadelphia. She married Dr. Herbert Doroshow (deceased) and they raised their children in Flossmoor, IL. She attended the Art Institute of Chicago from 1966-1970. In 1973, Helen moved to New Mexico living in Santa Fe for many years where she participated in the arts community. Helen moved to San Francisco for a short period of time, but loved New Mexico too much to stay away. She was President of her family's foundation, The Max and Anna Levinson Foundation, which continues to operate from Santa Fe. Helen moved to Costilla, New Mexico, in 1987, where she built a house on the river. She lived there 12 years, restoring the historic Plaza de Arriba which is now Costilla Plaza where she operated a bed and breakfast, grocery store, and bar. In 1999, having completed her work in Costilla, Helen moved to Taos where she continued her love of art, community development, and community service before dying in 2008.
