Nancy CatherwoodAmerican, b. 1945

Nancy Catherwood (American, b. 1945) had an independent studies class with Anne Noggle at the University of New Mexico in the early 1970s and Noggle acquired three of her prints for the collection, which she donated in 1975. Catherwood – now Nancy Catherwood Magnusson -- had a B.A. in mathematics and worked with computers in Boston before relocating to Aspen and then joined a commune in southern Colorado with an Albuquerque outpost. She moved to Albuquerque looking for a new direction. She was not enrolled in a degree program at UNM but went to Noggle’s house for individual instruction, finding her a very supportive and encouraging teacher. Around 1972, Catherwood moved back to the east coast. She photographed children and weddings, married, had a child, and again worked in the computer field. At age fifty, she quit her job and got involved in ceramics, working as a studio manager in Connecticut and teaching as well as leading workshops in art and ceramics. She and her husband lived on twelve acres in rural Massachusetts, and she specialized in wood-fired ceramics. She and her husband moved back to Albuquerque in the early 2020s.
