Curry, after studying in Chicago and Paris, began depicting rural life in Kansas, in both painting and murals. He was artist-in-residence from 1936-1946 at the University of Wisconsin. In 1937, he received a hostile reception after he was commissioned to paint murals for the Kansas State Capitol building. The project was never finished. (ULAN 2008)
