Jennifer Schlesinger
Jennifer Schlesinger (American, b. 1974) grew up in Connecticut and studied at the University of New Hampshire. She moved to Atlanta and got a job working at a photo lab, then moved to Santa Fe in 1996. She studied photography with David Scheinbaum and others, graduating from the College of Santa Fe in 1998. Her thesis project “Graffito in Northern New Mexico” was made with a 4x5 camera and color film. She subsequently worked in arts administration at the Center for Contemporary Art in Santa Fe and as an events photographer for SITE Santa Fe. After working with Woody and Steina Vasulka’s Art and Science Lab on Rodeo Road, Schlesinger began gravitating toward landscape as a subject and began some work with a digital camera. Her series “Earth” was represented by Verve Gallery on Marcy Street. The artist worked for many years at Verve and when it closed in 20xx, she opened her own gallery, Obscura. Schlesinger is particularly known for her use and support of “alternative photography,” the use of historic process in contemporary art.
