Antone DolezalAmerican, born 1982

Antone Dolezal was raised on the eastern plains of Oklahoma and currently resides in Santa Fe, New Mexico. His father worked for a time as a newspaper photographer and Tony began photographing and printing in his darkroom at the age of twelve. He went on to receive numerous awards for photojournalism throughout middle school and high school. After graduation, he initially studied literature and creative writing at Oklahoma State University. He switched back to photography as a means of storytelling and personal expression and decided to transfer to the College of Santa Fe, where he graduated with a BFA in 2006. He has since earned a MFA degree from Syracuse University in New York.

His photographs explore the American social landscape and its relationship to history and folklore, often accompanied by vernacular imagery, found objects and fictional literature. His work has recently been exhibited at the Santa Fe University of Art & Design, photo-eye (Santa Fe), Rayko Photo Center (San Francisco) and the Harrington College of Design (Chicago), among other venues, and is slated for exhibition at 555 Gallery (Boston) and the Madison Public Library (Madison, WI) in the fall of 2014. Dolezal's photographs have been featured on National Public Radio, in Oxford American, Photo District News and Mossless Magazine. His prints and books are held in various collections including the British Library (London), Marion Center for the Photographic Arts (Santa Fe) and the Museum of Contemporary Photography (Chicago).
