BiographyRodney Carswell (b. 1946, Carmel, CA) grew up in New Mexico after his family moved to Santa Fe in 1949. He received his BFA from the University of New Mexico in 1968 and his MFA from the University of Colorado in Boulder in 1972. Carswell taught at Illinois State University (1972-1980) and the University of Illinois at Chicago (1983-2007). His creative career was surveyed in an exhibition at the Renaissance Society in Chicago, IL (1993). Carswell has exhibited at museums and galleries throughout the United States. He has received fellowship grants from the John Solomon Guggenheim Foundation; the Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation; the National Endowment for the Arts; and Illinois Arts Council. His work can be found in the collection of the Art Institute of Chicago, Illinois; the Albright Knox Gallery in Buffalo, New York; the Illinois State Art Museum and others.
