BiographyMichael Heizer (born 1944) is an American land artist specializing in large-scale and site specific sculptures. Working outside the confines of traditional galleries and museums, Heizer is noted for redefining sculpture in terms of scale, material, and process. A part of the 20th century Land Art or Earth Art movement, Heizer is known for creating his sculptures with heavy-duty equipment like industrial mixers, bulldozers, and excavators. He currently lives and works in Hiko, Nevada and New York City.
