Description
Colombian artist José Antonio Suárez Londoño often works at a small scale, as if drawing in a personal journal. Indeed, his drawings and prints seem diaristic, particularly when they include hand-written text or drawings that seem to come from a scientific textbook. Suárez Londoño is one of many artists from Latin America who have been invited to collaborate with Tamarind printmakers as part of a practice of cultural exchange. The densely composed red concentric circle at the center of the composition resembles tree rings or a fingerprint. There is a sense in much of Suárez Londoño’s work, including this print, that there is a microcosm made visible to us and the figures in the image are centered on a vortex or core.
