DescriptionDiagram of the earth occupies top half of composition. Lower half includes a green circle, a green ring and a yellow and blue ball-like circle. Background is a mottled brick-red/brown with drops.eMuseum Notes
Larry Brown brings together the cosmos and the microscopic in his lithograph Balancing Act, done at Tamarind Institute in Albuquerque in 2003. The composition is bisected, with the earth represented in the top half and the microscopic in the lower half. The repetition of the circle appears as globe, cell, and ball, confounding the differences among the basic forms. “I see this activity as a metaphor perhaps for a gigantic juggling act,” Brown has said of his work.
