DescriptionBlack and white city scape with a male figure facing the camera in the foreground and another figure whose back is at the camera in the background. Image is out of focus giving the illusion of movement and confusion.eMuseum Notes
In much of Rodick’s work, he uses the camera’s reputation for faithfully recording life to help us identify with his subjects and then manipulates the resulting picture in some way so that it reflects an interior rather than an exterior state of being. In this image from his early series “Liquid City,” he is working in a traditional black-and-white street photography style, but moves his camera during the exposure to shift the mood and meaning of the picture.
