Description
This photograph was made during the Depression years when Gilpin was living in her hometown of Colorado Springs and trying to support herself and her father. It may have been part of a set of images she made about the contemporary Navajo that was available for sale and rental for educational lectures. Gilpin later lived on Navajo lands for many years and photographed the people extensively. In 1968, she published a book of these images, “The Enduring Navajo.”
