eMuseum Notes
After venturing inside an abandoned building in Vaughn, New Mexico, which turned out to have been a music hall, Steve Fitch decided to capture what was left of its spirit. In the dim light of the boarded-up building, with rain coming through the damaged roof, he found a dry spot from which to make a long exposure that would capture the painted walls. Resuming his drive, the artist made his way to his original destination, the town of Yeso, and made a few more photographs of interiors in vacant buildings there. Thus began his series Gone, an exploration of the post-World War II culture of the high Great Plains region.
