eMuseum Notes
For his photographic project on abandoned buildings of the Great Plains, Steve Fitch found no one around to ask if he could explore the houses and structures he encountered as he drove across the region. The low light and close walls of this room seem like the setting for a horror movie, and Fitch says that many such places were far from silent, with a soundtrack of creaking doors, rattling windows, and scurrying animals. To make these pictures in low light, he made long exposures with his view camera, standing for fifteen minutes or more in these places resonating with failure and loss.
