DescriptionHorizontal page with image of sculpture of human head and shoulders at center. Shoulders and neck rise up from bottom of page and are out of focus. Head has articulated eyes, brows, nose, and closed lips, with lines on forehead. Full head of short hair, also out of focus.

Emuseum Notes

Giacometti’s wife Annette often served as a model for the artist and he made many drawings of her. Late in his life, in 1962, he sculpted this head and torso and cast it in plaster in preparation for later casting in bronze. Here, Herbert Matter photographs a detail of the plaster, somewhat out of focus. He uses its pale, matte surface to give the subject an ethereal quality.
