Kennedy made this photograph in a town in Nebraska that is located a couple of miles across the border with South Dakota and the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. When alcohol consumption and possession were banned on the reservation, liquor stores in nearby Whiteclay profited from residents coming across the border to drink and buy alcohol. It wasn’t until 2017 that their licenses were revoked.
