eMuseum Notes
Mountain with a Moon may be a representation of the barranca, a formation of tuff or volcanic ash near Cady Wells's home in Jacona in the Pojoaque Valley. Wells mused that barranca had the significance for him that the Cerro Pedernal had for his friend and colleague Georgia O'Keeffe. His depictions of the barranca differ over the course of his career, and he used a thick contour to describe the topography.
