eMuseum Notes
Born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Christenberry often visited family in rural Hale County, a place that has provided the primary inspiration for his work in painting, sculpture, and photography. Particularly drawn to the region’s folk architecture, Christenberry often photographed the same site over the course of several decades. This modest building appears in a series of photographs in which it is increasingly devoured by kudzu and other vegetation.
