Artist Jo Whaley considers this image a transition or bridge piece in her work, in that it combines the physical objects of a studio still life with elements from the natural world (such as the flower and leaves and live snails from her garden). The magnifying glass and chrome equipment, along with the Luna Moth specimen, signify an analytical, scientific approach to knowledge of the world versus an earthier, more experiential approach indicated by the snails exploring the table and flower, both of which enrich our understanding in different ways.
