DescriptionAbstract, mountain landscape, valley and houses.eMuseum Notes
In 1935, Cady Wells spent six weeks in Japan studying sumi-e or ink brush painting. In this New Mexico landscape, Wells used varying thickness of lines and different tones to create spatial relationships with a distinctly modernist flair. The scene includes both the natural landscape and architecture, yet Wells blended the two to create an image of the harmonies and rhythms of his experience.
