eMuseum Notes
Frederico M. Vigil explores the Hispanic heritage of Nuevo Mexico through his paintings. This painting is part of the series, Funciones: Communal Ceremonies of Hispanic Life, and focuses on the iconic Ranchos de Taos church, which has been immortalized by many artists over the past century. Instead of making the church the focus of the painting, it serves as a backdrop for the hermanos of the Penitente Brotherhood and the Catholic faithful.
