DescriptionAbstract landscape done in black, beige and light green on white background. The side of a mountain range is featured at the left sloping downward into the valley in the foreground. The sky above is dotted with squiggly gray and black clouds.eMuseum Notes
In 1932, Cady Wells studied painting with Andrew Dasburg in Taos. The latter, an accomplished artist and instructor, taught Wells how to capture the essence of nature using an economy of line and color. This view of the landscape surrounding Taos reduces forms to basic contours but with a calligraphic flair likely influenced by Wells's interest in East Asian painting.
