Peter Gourfain

American, b. 1934
BiographySculptor-printmaker Peter Gourfain was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1934 and currently lives in Brooklyn. He studied at the Chicago Art Institute graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1956. He currently teaches ceramic sculpture at Greenwich House Pottery and has taught at the Rhode Island School of Design, the University of Southern Maine, Skowhegan School in Maine, Massachusetts College of Art, Louisiana State University, Cranbrook Academy, Kent State University and the School of Visual Arts.

He is a member of the Artists Equity and has received many commissions and awards including Greenwich House Pottery, a commission for bronze medallions, twenty-four bronze reliefs for the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, Bronze Steele for the National Park Service, Lowell, Massachusetts, and tens ceramic urns at Ohio State University.
