BiographyJohn Cliett was a New York-based photographer known for his late 1970s images of Walter de Maria’s permanent, site-specific land art piece The Lightning Field. Commissioned by the artist and the Dia Art Foundation in New York, Cliett lived on the site for a time and produced more than one hundred photographs at the site from different vantage points and in varying weather conditions.
