DescriptionHorizontal composition with image of a profile view of a sculpture of human figure. Heavy base visible at bottom center supports stick figure in striding posture with irregular surface. Face, hands, and feet are unarticulated, feet are prominent and large scale in relation to figure.eMuseum Notes
Alberto Giacometti began making single elongated human figures in the late 1940s and went on to explore the full-scale human form in space and in relationship to other figures. His tall, stick-figure beings stride forward on outsized feet that either ground them or hamper them as they move into an uncertain fugure, appearing both resilient and vulnerable. For this image, Herbert Matter comes in close on the figure to capture a sense of movement.
