DescriptionDouble-sided:eMuseum Notes
During the early years of Cady Wells's career, he experimented with a variety of approaches under the tutelage of his mentor, Andrew Dasburg. Dasburg had been one of the first practitioners of cubism in the United States, although he had largely digested cubist principles by the 1930s and was exploring varied stylistic tendencies in his new work. In this watercolor, Wells seems to be working with some of the precepts of cubism through the intersecting planes that describe the various perspectives of the scene.
